Saturday morning, Barret, his friends and I, all headed to a place I was becoming very familiar with, the train station. We took an hour and a half train to Cinque Terre. Unfortunately, the major trails were closed because it was off season, but we were able to walk around Cinque Terre (the 5th town) and take one of the minor trails to the 4th town. It was incredible!! Adorable town with shops and cafes, trails throughout the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean. And the weather was mid-60s, high 70s. We found a picnic spot and laid out a spread of salami, bread, cheese and wine. After being in gloomy Paris for a month and a half, it was incredible to relax in the sun - I think my nose even got a little sunburnt!
Barret and his friends decided I should see all the neighboring towns (all on the Mediterranean), so we hoped back on the train to Santa Margherita - one of my favorite towns - then took a bus to Portofino, went back to Santa Marherita and took the train to Camogli for dinner. Each place was the essence of a perfect Italian mediterranean town. We had been hoping for Mexican in Camogli but the restaurant was booked (as were the next 6 restaurants we tried). Finally, we found a pizzeria that also did main entrees, which turned out to be delicious and perfect! I had trofie pasta with true pesto (meaning it had potatoes and green beans) and then fried fish. Which was basically an entire fish (eyes and all) with some crisp skin. Both were amazing. And then expresso macchiato/chocolate for dessert.
Originally we had planned to go to a club Saturday night, but by the time we returned home it was well after 11 pm and we were all exhausted and in need of showers, so we called it a night.
