The ''French'' Prince of Bel Air

One of the biggest differences between Americans and the French is the humor. I don't understand most of their humor...probably because I don't understand most of their language. Regardless, I just haven't found French people to be very funny...with a few exceptions. And, I believe it goes both ways. The French I've met often tell me the hardest thing for them is understanding American humor.

Well, this following exchange might not seem that interesting to you all, but after 2 months of little humor (or oo-mer, as they say here), it made me laugh.

Last night, I was writing to Brittany to tell her I found Fresh Prince of Bel Air on French TV (dubbed in French of course). Well, I didn't even notice it, but I accidentally wrote ''French'' Prince of Bel Air instead of ''Fresh''.

So today, I was talking with Antoine, my Parisien friend from Internations, and we got on the topic of subconsciously writing or talking in your second language. Then I told him about my ''French'' Prince story. It took some back and forth for him to understand the story. Then when I finally thought he understood, he said (in jilted English):

''Just so I understand, you are telling your friend what you are watching on TV while you are watching TV?"

And I said, yes, and I explained again. And then he said:

''Yes I get it. I just wanted to make my point that you are telling your friends what you are watching on TV. Could you keep me informed as well sometimes I have no TV program.''

Then he winked and said, '''Fresh''' humor. Of course, meaning French humor.

And for some reason, I thought that was funny enough to blog about.
