Because we thought they were supposed to be...not ugly, but fresh-faced, natural, and maybe a little down on the farm. But no. Stephanie and I were surrounded by long legs, high heels, lots of makeup and some of the most fashionable clothes I've seen in Europe. Way to go Dublin - you got the pick of the litter.
After accepting that we weren't going to be the hot Parisien girls in Dublin - because let's face it -I've yet to find hot Parisien girls, we checked into our hotel and ventured off to the pubs. Luckily Dublin is a small city, and we were able to walk to the infamous Temple Bar area for our first Irish ''pisser.'' After surveying the debauchery that was already in full swing at midnight, we settled for a pub called the Auld Dubliner. Though it was one of those cute pubs you might imagine in the movies, the pub goers were rockin' like a Vegas nightclub - singing, dancing, girls parading around in elaborate costumes for what seemed like no reason. We hovered in the corner sipping our beers and trying to catch up with the Dubliner crowd.
As we were sitting there minding our own business, we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by an English stag night...or what was left of it after half the boys had gone AWOL. We befriended the Brits for a short period of time, comparing slang...such as how to say toilet in different languages. Toilet, toilette, the lou, the crapper, the sh....well you get the point. After we'd had our fill of Brit speak, we decided it would be wise to go to bed at the early hour of 3 a.m. since we had a full day of sightseeing planned. However, being girls...we stayed up until 5 a.m. gossiping. Good times.
